There are some key points to consider when buying wholesale beef. In this article, we use a 1/2 cow purchase as an example.
This article will cover:
Firstly, a half cow typically weighs about 340 pounds. If you choose to purchase a half cow unbutchered, you'd receive the lowest price-per-pound, but you will need to handle the butchering yourself.
The butchered weight of our half cows is 200 pounds. Understanding this weight difference is crucial for calculating costs accurately.
While we could advertise a price of $8.24 per pound based on the initial hanging weight of 340 pounds, this would be misleading since most customers do not butcher their own meat. Instead, our price of $14 per pound reflects the cost of the beef once it is butchered, wrapped, labeled, frozen, and delivered to your door.
Additionally, it's important to consider the cattle's upbringing and diet. We are a start-to-finish operation, calving and raising the these cattle ourselves. They are grass-fed, and grain-finished during the last 4-6 months of their lives.
Furthermore, not all cows are the same. Our cattle are of the Speckle Park breed, renowned for producing exceptionally juicy, flavorful, and tender meat.
Lastly, our beef is processed in provincially-inspected facilities. Hallie raises most of the cattle himself and typically delivers directly to your door, ensuring a genuine farm-to-table experience.
Please note, like many things, the cost of cows has significantly increased compared to two years ago.
We hope this breakdown helps you understand our pricing and the quality of our product.
